Find The Eggs

This afternoon we are taking the kids for an Easter egg hunt at a grocery store near my mother-in-laws house. I'm sure the kids are going to have a blast! I just hope we don't bake TOO much in the sun as I think it is suppose to be HOT and sunny later today. Guess I better find some sunblock!

Stolen

Several days ago as I left a meeting at our church, I desperately gave myself a personal TSA pat down. I was looking for my keys. They were not in my pockets. A quick search in the meeting room revealed nothing.

Suddenly I realized, I must have left them in the truck. Frantically, I headed for the parking lot. My wife has scolded me many times for leaving the keys in the vehicle. My theory is the truck is the best place not to lose them, since I ALWAYS have the remote; but, the remote was in the truck too! Her theory is that the truck might be stolen. As I burst through the doors of the church, I came to a terrifying conclusion. Her theory was right. The parking lot was empty.

I immediately call the police. I gave them my location, confessed that I had left my keys in the truck, and that it had been stolen. Then I made the most difficult call of all, "Honey, I stammered, (I always call her honey in times like this) I left my keys in the truck, and it has been stolen."

There was a period of silence. I thought the call had been dropped, but then I heard Carol's voice. "Ed, (she barked) I dropped you off!" Now it was my time to be silent. Embarrassed, I said, "Well, come and get me". Carol retorted, "I will, as soon as I convince this policeman I have not stolen your truck!"

My Latest Project

During the night last night a new project idea came to me. I have no clue what made me think of this but I decided to make it today!

My kids LOVE it when we buy Trix yogurt and I actually do too. Hubby calls them shots of yogurt because they are a smaller serving but for the kids and I, they are just the right amount and they taste so yummy! They don't really leave that yogurt after taste in your mouth like regular yogurt can sometimes do. If you have never tried it, you really should.

Alrighty, now that I'm done with the try it before you buy it review of Trix yogurt, let's get back to the original topic of this blog post, shall we?

The Trix yogurt containers are made from plastic and we usually recycle them but the idea that came to me during the night was to crochet a basket around them and put an Easter egg in it that contained either a miniature face scrubbie or a couple of itty bitty make-up removers. I haven't quite decided for sure yet which I'm going to put inside the egg. I may even put a bunny shaped face scrubbie or make-up remover in there. Hmmmmm.....

Soooooo.......supplies needed to create this project were:

an empty, washed Trix yogurt container, some pink and white cotton yarn, a plastic Easter egg, some pink Easter grass, a crochet hook, and a pair of scissors

After just a short period of crochet time, ta da! All of the supplies pictured above turned into the finished project below! Whatcha think?

I'm pleased with the end result and can't wait to make some other color combinations! The basket actually looks pretty cute without the Trix yogurt container too. I tried to get a picture of the basket without the container on this post too but posting pictures doesn't always work the way I want it to. Grrrr.....

Maybe I'll have to find another use for the containers because I think I almost like the basket better without it anyway then I'll have another NEW project idea to blog about featuring the empty Trix yogurt containers.

Rules from God for 2012

Rules from God for 2012

1. Wake Up! Decide to have a good day. "Today is the day the Lord hath made; let us rejoice and be glad in it" Psalms 118:24

2. Dress Up! The best way to dress up is to put on a smile. A smile is an inexpensive way to improve your looks. "The Lord does not look at the things man looks at. Man looks at outward appearance; but the Lord looks at the heart." I Samuel 16:7

3. Shut Up! Say nice things and learn to listen. God gave us two ears and one mouth, so He must have meant for us to do twice as much listening as talking. "He who guards his lips guards his soul." Proverbs 13:3

4. Stand Up! For what you believe in. Stand for something or you will fall for anything. "Let us not be weary in doing good; for at the proper time, we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good." Galatians 6:9-10

5. Look Up! To the Lord. "I can do everything through Christ who strengthens me." Philippians 4:13

6. Reach Up! For something higher. "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not unto your own understanding. In all your ways, acknowledge Him, And He will direct your path." Proverbs 3:5-6

7. Lift Up! Your Prayers. "Do not worry about anything; Instead PRAY ABOUT EVERYTHING." Philippians 4:6

Replacing Items

Ever have something that needs replacing but when you purchase a new item to replace it, the new item just doesn't work as well as the old one?

Awhile ago, I purchased a new crochet hook because my old one was so used that the color was coming off of it. I've obviously crocheted A LOT with it! After I bought the new crochet hook, I tried it out and it just was not the same so I set it aside and continued to use my old one. I don't know what it was. It just seemed like the yarn didn't flow across the new one as easily.

I've since decided that I'm going to give my new pretty blue crochet hook, (my FAVORITE color I might add), a try. I'm sure that once I start using it more and more it will eventually become my new favorite crochet hook and will look just as worn as the old red one does now.

Making My Own Patterns

I am not one that really likes to follow a pattern. I would much rather make up my own pattern that way my creation is my creation. Not just because I make it but because I design it as well.

One of the items I created the pattern for is the rainbow circle face scrubbies that I sell in my Etsy shop.

The other day I had a buyer ask if I could make this circle be shaped more like a rainbow. I was up for the challenge! I love trying new things!

After quite a few trial and errors and thinking I was going to have to tell the buyer it was a no go, I was finally able to create a pattern that turned out to be a rainbow shaped face scrubbie. I was so proud of myself for being able to figure it out! I don't even remember how many tries it took but I was a determined lil' crocheter and was gonna get it right!

Here is the finished product! I'm pleased with the end result! Whatcha think?

Canceling The Contest

Well, I've decided to cancel the contest I had hoped to hold here on my blog. The one where the winning Etsy shop would find their shop featured in 30 consecutive treasuries that I posted about here.

I was planning on having the voting for the contest start today and run all week. I had the entry time open for about 3 days and didn't have not one shop who was interested. :-(

I'm a bit bummed out about it. I thought it would have been a lot of fun for the Etsy shops involved to post the link and try to gather the most votes so they could win. I was hoping a lot of Etsy shops would have wanted to participate.

I thought 30 treasury features was a great way to promote one's shop but I guess no one else did?

I guess I can't really say NO ONE was interested in the contest. I did have one Etsy shop post a comment after the deadline for entry so that Etsy shop will find some of their items featured in some upcoming March treasuries. Thank you to Laura Lynn Studio for your interest in the contest!

Maybe I'll try again at a later date? Maybe for the month of May? Only time will tell.

Early Morning Riser

So the time right now is 7:39am on a Saturday morning. Yes, you read that right, SATURDAY morning!

Now why am I up this early on a Saturday. Well, let me tell ya! I don't want to be up this early that's for sure but a certain lil' three and a half year old decided he wanted to get up early today.

From the other room this morning, I hear a lil' voice calling, "Mommy. Mommy." I looked at the clock and saw the numbers 7:12. Seriously? 7:12am on a SATURDAY?

I don't even get up this early during the week!

I do have a lot going on today so getting up early is actually a good idea so I can get everything accomplished that I need to but man, getting up early may be a good idea but it's an idea I don't much like!

How Fast People Eat

It's crazy how people eat at different paces! Very different paces. Granted I know that not everyone is the same but still.

Here's an example of what I'm talking about and what prompted this blog post.

A little while ago I went into the kitchen and grabbed a banana. As I was peeling it I told my hubby they were probably just perfect for him because he likes them right after the greenness is gone. I on the other hand prefer them once they are a bit more yellow but was hungry for a snack so I was going to eat one today.

Well, hubby must have thought a banana sounded good too because next thing I know he had one and before I know it he wasn't eating one anymore.

I asked him, "Did you already scarf down that banana?" To which he answered yes.

My next questions to him were, "Did you even chew it?" "Did you even taste it?"

I asked these two questions because I had started eating my banana before he got one and still had half of mine left when he finished his.

Soooooo.........he apparently eats TOO fast or I eat TOO slow. We definitely eat at different paces!

Upcoming Holidays

Once again I am not prepared for the holidays as they arrive. I always think I'm going to be but yet it never happens. I had a few great items for St. Patrick's Day but didn't get them finished and listed in my Etsy shop in time. I'm probably going to list them anyway though. Who knows? Maybe someone will shop early to be ready for 2013!

The next upcoming holiday is Easter. Well, it will be here before we know it and at the rate I'm going, it is going to be yet another holiday that I am not prepared for so I think I'm going to skip to the next holiday which will be the 4th of July.

I have just over 3 months so surely I can get some patriotic items made and listed right? One would think I could. Only time will tell!

Wanna Be Featured In 30 Treasuries?

I've decided to hold a bit of a contest here on my blog. I have NO clue how this is going to go, so please bear with me, but hey, I'm up for trying it out. I'm going to have a list of Etsy shops here on my blog for voters to choose from. The Etsy shop who has the most votes when voting is over wins. What do they win?

As some of you may already know, my daughter and I have a New Year's resolution to create a treasury a day for the year of 2012. We are going strong with this resolution and today is day 81 for it. Yay us!

My question in the title of this post is:

Wanna be featured in 30 treasuries?

There are 30 days in the month of April which means my daughter and I will be making 30 treasuries in April.

Sooooooooo, the winner of this contest will find their Etsy shop featured in all 30 of our April treasuries! Yep, you read that number right. 30, yes 30 consecutive treasuries!

Now, if you have an Etsy shop you are probably thinking, "How can I get entered in this contest?"

Well, let me tell ya! To get entered in this contest, simply post a comment saying you want a chance at this opportunity and leave the link to your Etsy shop. You have until noon Etsy time on Saturday, March 24, 2012 to let me know.

As of now there really aren't any "rules" for the contest but I will add them as needed. I do ask however, that if you plan to enter your Etsy shop in the contest then please also plan to have at least 30 different items listed so that if you are the winner, we can feature something different from your shop in each of the 30 treasuries. I also ask that your Etsy shop NOT be put on vacation mode in April because if you don't have listings then we can't feature you. Obviously I totally understand that life happens and there may be a need for this. If so, we'll wing it when the time comes. :-)

So with that all said, or should I say typed out, who wants entered for a chance to be featured in 30 treasuries? You? You? Or you?

Crazy Colored Dish Scrubbies

I crochet dish scrubbies using nylon netting and tulle. I usually buy it in 5 yard pieces. Most of the time when I get to the end of the piece, when I buy more it usually doesn't quite match even if I buy the same color because the new piece is most often off of a different bolt.

Rather than throw away the little bits of each color that are left, I crochet all the little bits together to make some crazy colored dish scrubbies. Hey, how's that saying go? Waste not want not, right?

Even though they aren't quite as "pretty" as the other ones I make, these crazy colored ones work just the same! My dirty dishes don't really care what color of dish scrubbie is getting them clean and neither do I!

I've thought about selling them at a discounted price since they aren't quite as "attractive" but I wasn't sure if anyone would be interested in them.

Tonight I sat and went through all of my little bits and was able to make 6 dish scrubbies for my kitchen. Those will last us awhile! You can see them in the picture. Whatcha think? Would you scrub your pots and pans with them?

The Storm

They were together in the house. Just the two of them.

It was a cold, dark, stormy night. The storm had come quickly
and each time the thunder boomed he watched her jump.

She looked across the room and admired his strong appearance
and wished that he would take her in his arms, comfort her, and
protect her from the storm.

Suddenly, with a pop, the power went out. She screamed.

He raced to the sofa where she was cowering.

He didn't hesitate to pull her into his arms.

He knew this was a forbidden union and expected her to pull back.

He was surprised when she didn't resist but instead clung to him.

The storm raged on. They knew it was wrong.

Their families would never understand. So consumed were they in
their FEAR that they heard no opening of doors, just the faint click
of a camera......

Now that you have smiled today, won't you please help someone else? Send them on over for a read!

Green Vegetables

This blog post is going to be about green vegetables! Hmmmm...........let's make a list!

Well, you have one of the obvious ones that come to mind- green beans! I posted a blog post last month about green beans that you can read here if you missed it!

Then you have some other healthy green veggies. Some of which I like and some I don't.

Let's see. There's:

artichoke- This green veggie just gets an ok from my tastes buds. When we buy it, which isn't very often, we usually steam it and then dip it in butter. My daughter LOVES it!

asparagus- Tastes great steamed with some seasonings on it!

avocado- I just LOVE guacamole which you probably know is made from avocados. I use to only be able to have it when out to eat at a restaurant. The kind I found in a store was just disgusting! I have since found some at Sam's Club that is really good! Avocados are also good with salt. Just cut one in half, take out the seed, salt it, and dig in with a spoon!

broccoli- I think this is probably one of my all time favorite green veggies! I like it fresh dipped in the ranch/sour cream dip. Broccoli is also GREAT steamed with melted Velveeta cheese on it. Broccoli is also pretty yummy cooked in stir fry. So many tasty ways to eat broccoli because you can't forget about broccoli cheese casserole!

brussel sprouts- These are good with melted butter and salt!

cabbage- A bigger version of brussel sprouts. I like cabbage steamed and topped with butter and salt too!

celery- This one gets a big YUCK from me unless it has cream cheese on it and even then it only ranks up to an ok. I'll eat it cooked in soup but could really care less if celery was part of my diet.

cucumbers- Technically only green on the outside and more of a white color on the inside but we'll include them as a green veggie. I love to peel them, slice them, salt them, and then dip them in Italian dressing. Oh so tasty! I recently found seedless cucumbers at Sam's Club which are awesome! I hate it when I buy cucumbers and they have those really big chewy seeds!

green onions- These are GREAT a top a big ol' bowl of potato soup which is another topic I've already written about here. Be fair warned! If you haven't read the potato soup post yet, you just might find yourself wanting a bowl of potato soup after you do!

green peppers- All I can say about this veggie is YUCK! YUCK! And did I mention? YUCK! Get the idea I don't like green peppers do ya? Ummmmm.......nope, I don't.

green tomato- Fried green tomatoes is probably the most common thing to make with green tomatoes. Can you say EWWWW! Yep, not for my taste buds!

jalepeno pepper- Adds FANTASTIC flavor to home made salsa! I posted about that a LONG time ago. You can read it here if you'd like!

lettuce- Mmmm.....I love salads with all the toppings! Of course as soon as I add all the "extras" to my salad, well, it's no longer too healthy for me but boy howdy does it taste great!

lima beans- Are they green? I think they are? Well, whether they are or aren't, they are still GROSS in my opinion!

okra- We love fried okra dipped in ranch dressing! Yep, that's a healthy way to eat it huh?

peas- Another ok veggie for me. I'll eat them but they are definitely NOT one of my favorites. My hubby on the other hand, really likes them.

zucchini- Another veggie like the cucumber that is green on the outside but not on the inside. We'll categorize it as green too. We enjoy this veggie yet the unhealthy way too, fried and dipped in ranch dressing!

Alrighty, my mind is drawing a blank now. Can't think of any other green vegetables. Did I forget any?

Carrots

Carrots. The orange vegetable. I like carrots whether they are fresh, cooked by themselves, or cooked in a stew, soup, or casserole. My hubby and both my kids like them too.

We all like fresh carrots dipped in ranch dressing or the ranch dip mix that you mix with sour cream. Oh so yummy!

Now if they are cooked then we have a difference of opinion on how to eat them. Hubby and the kids like to eat them still dipped in ranch dressing but I like my cooked carrots smothered in butter, salt, and pepper.

My grandma cooked carrots not too long ago for supper and they were really good too! She cooked them with some brown sugar so they were extra sweet! I think all of us like them that way too!

I've heard the saying that carrots are good for your eyes. I have no idea if they really are or not. I've heard people say they are because rabbits like carrots and you never see a rabbit wearing glasses do ya?

Finding The Needle

This morning I was sewing on buttons when my needle broke. Great! Just what I needed! I was on a roll getting things accomplished!

Sooooo.....I just KNOW that I have nearly a whole package of needles but do I know where they are? Nope. I sure don't. Of course I don't. When you need something you don't know where it is. Isn't that how it usually goes?

I looked in my sewing cabinet. I looked in my cases with all my buttons and didn't see them. I looked in my little tubs of craft supplies and didn't see them. I looked in some other places that I have some other craft supplies and yet I still could not find those darn needles that I just KNOW that I have.

Running out of places to look, I went back to look again in my cases with my buttons. Out of all the places I would keep them that would be a GOOD place for them but alas the needles I was looking for hadn't appeared for me.

I did however realize that my other spools of thread were in one of the cases of buttons and guess what was on them. Yep, you guessed it. There were TWO spools of thread in the case and each one had a needle in it!

All that searching and looking around was a waste of time because what I needed was in one of the FIRST places I had looked. I didn't see them though because I had my mind set on finding the other needles I was looking for, which are still missing by the way. I'll find them one day when I am NOT looking for them.

Not Crackers

I just gave my 3 year old son a snack. It consisted of two of his favorite things to eat: fruit snacks and goldfish crackers.

He came over to me with his bowl to let me know he had eaten all the fruit snacks. I told him to finish up his crackers too and then was informed by him that they were NOT crackers, they were goldfish. LOL!

I stand corrected! :-)

Spring's Around The Corner

I think spring just might be around the corner. I saw signs of it this morning!

After dropping my daughter off at school this morning, my son and I went over to the post office. On the way home I saw one of those flowering trees and it had its buds all over the branches. It looked like they were just ready to burst out in all their beauty!

In my own yard I saw that my day lilies are popping up out of the ground. I think these are both great signs that spring is on the way!

Washing Your Hair

Last night hubby was lying on the couch and I was sitting on the loveseat.

My little boy went up to daddy and started rubbing his head.

He said, "I'm washing your hair." When he was done with daddy's hair he came over to wash mommy's hair.

I think he thought it was funny that my hair got all messed up and in my face when he "washed" mine. Daddy has super short hair so he didn't have any to really "move" around while "washing" daddy's like he did when he "washed" mommy's.

Daddy could get his hair "washed" and then just go but mommy had to have her hair styled before going anywhere.

Just another one of those cute toddler moments I wanted to write about. Hope it made ya smile thinking about it!

Following Doctors' Orders

Morris , an 82 year-old man, went to the doctor to get a physical.

A few days later, the doctor saw Morris walking down the street with a
gorgeous young woman on his arm.

A couple of days later, the doctor spoke to Morris and said, 'You're
really doing great, aren't you?'

Morris replied, 'Just doing what you said, Doc: Get a hot mamma and be
cheerful.'

The doctor said, 'I didn't say that. I said: You've got a heart murmur,
be careful.'

New Hearing Aid

A man was telling his neighbor, 'I just bought a new hearing aid. It cost
me four thousand dollars, but it's state of the art. It's perfect.'

'Really,' answered the neighbor. 'What kind is it?'

'Twelve thirty.'

Getting Married

A senior citizen said to his eighty-year old buddy:
'So I hear you're getting married?'
'Yep!'
'Do I know her?'
'Nope!'
'This woman, is she good looking?'
'Not really.'
'Is she a good cook?'
'Naw, she can't cook too well.'
'Does she have lots of money?'
'Nope! Poor as a church mouse.'
'Well, then, is she good in bed?'
'I don't know.'
'Why in the world do you want to marry her then?'
'Because she can still drive!'

Hospital Regulations

A little funny I received in an e-mail so thought I'd share:

Hospital regulations require a wheel chair for patients being discharged.
However, while working as a student nurse, I found one elderly gentleman
already dressed and sitting on the bed with a suitcase at his feet, who
insisted he didn't need my help to leave the hospital.

After a chat about rules being rules, he reluctantly let me wheel him to
the elevator. On the way down I asked him if his wife was meeting him.
'I don't know,' he said. 'She's still upstairs in the bathroom changing
out of her hospital gown.'

Corn

Corn is a great tasting vegetable that I enjoy several different ways.

It's good canned whether it be whole kernel or creamed corn. If whole kernel then I like it with butter, salt, and pepper on it. If it's creamed corn then some salt and pepper is the way to go. My grandpa's favorite is creamed corn.

I enjoy corn in stew and soup too but I think my all time favorite way to eat corn is corn on the cob. I love to roll it and lather it with LOTS of butter, shake some salt on, and mmmmm mmmmm good! Oh so tasty! What I don't like however with corn on the cob is how it gets stuck in your teeth. A quick brush and some dental floss though and you're good to go!

So how do you like your corn?

A Little Humor For The Day

An elderly couple had dinner at another couple's house, and after eating,
the wives left the table and went into the kitchen.

The two gentlemen were talking, and one said, 'Last night we went out to
a new restaurant and it was really great. I would recommend it very
highly.'

The other man said, 'What is the name of the restaurant?'

The first man thought and thought and finally said, 'What’s the name of
that flower you give to someone you love? You know, the one that's red
and has thorns.'

'Do you mean a rose?'

'Yes, that's the one,' replied the man. He then turned towards the
kitchen and yelled, 'Rose, what's the name of that restaurant we went to last
night?'

Write It Down

A couple in their nineties are both having problems remembering things.

During a check-up, the doctor tells them that they're physically okay, but
they might want to start writing things down to help them remember.

Later that night, while watching TV, the old man gets up from his chair.

'Want anything while I'm in the kitchen?' he asks.

'Will you get me a bowl of ice cream?'

'Sure.'

'Don't you think you should write it down so you can remember it?' she asks.

'No, I can remember it.'

'Well, I'd like some strawberries on top, too. Maybe you should write it
down, so as not to forget it?'

He says, 'I can remember that. You want a bowl of ice cream with
strawberries.'

'I'd also like whipped cream. I'm certain you'll forget that, write it down.'

Irritated, he says, 'I don't need to write it down, I can remember it! Ice cream
with strawberries and whipped cream. I got it, for goodness sake!'

Then he toddles into the kitchen. After about 20 minutes, the old man
returns from the kitchen and hands his wife a plate of bacon and eggs.

She stares at the plate for a moment. 'Where's my toast?'

Cheese

My family is a family of cheese heads! Now this isn't because we live in Wisconsin or because we are Green Bay Packers fans. This is because we literally eat a ton of cheese. Ok, not really a TON, but a whole lot!

We use shredded cheese for SO many things in our house:

on tacos

on nachos

on burritos

on quesadillas

on enchiladas

on salads

on baked potatoes

on potato soup

on scrambled eggs

And my kids even eat shredded cheese all by itself. As a kid growing up, we used to take a slice of bread and bake it with shredded cheese on it. I've done this as an adult too.

I think the all time favorite cheese in our house would have to be colby jack cheese slices. My kids LOVE this kind of cheese the most. A lot of times when we go grocery shopping my daughter will ask if we can buy some.

Now don't forget some of the other popular cheeses too:

sliced American cheese which is GREAT for plain grilled cheese sandwiches and grilled ham/cheese or turkey/cheese sandwiches

parmesan cheese that makes all those pasta meals taste that much better

and cottage cheese which isn't necessarily in the same "cheese" family as all the others but still has cheese in the name and my kids eat A LOT of it as well. My grandma basically buys cottage cheese for her house just for my kids to eat when we come over for supper. They love it SO much!

As you can see, you probably agree we are cheese heads! Are you a cheese head too?

Snowing Outside

Crazy, CRAZY weather we are having here! Yesterday it was nearly 70 degrees and today it is snowing!

I just told my son that it was snowing outside. I pulled up the mini blind so he could look out the window at the snow.

He climbed up on the couch and looked out. It was pretty cute what he did next.

He said, "Mommy, it's Christmas!"

Too funny how even at that age he associated snow with Christmas. Ahhh, those fun, sweet toddler moments!

Potato Soup

Mmmmm.......potato soup! Doesn't that bowl of soup just look SO yummy! That was my lunch today and boy howdy was it DEEEEEELICIOUS!

I've liked potato soup for as long as I can remember. My grandma's was my favorite but now my hubby's mom has me spoiled with a new way to enjoy it.

Grandma's potato soup was always the good ol' fashion way: potatoes, onions, milk, and butter. Add some salt and pepper to it, then enjoy.

Hubby's mom made potato soup one time when we were visiting and now it's about the only way I like my potato soup. She made hers similar to grandma's, only she put in a bit of flour to make it a tad thicker. She also had some great tasting toppings to put on it. This is the way she was served potato soup in a restaurant so she decided to do it at home as well. Man, do those toppings add some flavor!

As you can see in the picture, the toppings include shredded cheese, bacon bits, and green onions along with some salt and pepper. Oh so very yummy! So who's in the mood for potato soup now?
