Mustard Greens

Tonight for supper we had Chicken Helper Fettuccine Alfredo. Along with our pasta my hubby also made the can of mustard greens we had purchased the other day. Of course, our daughter thought they were turnip greens again and didn't want to eat them. We told her they were not the same thing. She then wanted to know what they were called. Knowing she would not want to even try them if she knew they were named mustard greens, we just told her to eat first and we would tell her what it was later. I don't think she ended up liking them anyway. Hubby and I thought they were alright. Way better than turnip greens. Mustard greens actually reminded both of us of spinach which we both like. We added apple cider vinegar to the mustard greens when we cooked them just like we do to spinach when we fix it too. We think the apple cider vinegar helped make them taste better. It didn't work on the turnip greens though unless we didn't use enough of it. I put a lot in the mustard greens tonight. Overall rating of mustard greens at our house tonight was pretty good. We'd probably purchase them again in the future. That my dear readers is your try it before you buy it for tonight!

Turnip Greens

So yesterday we went to Wal-mart to pick up a few things. We found ourselves walking down the food aisles and came across the canned vegetables. We saw that corn, turnip greens, collard greens, and mustard greens were all on sale for only $.38 a can. We decided to pick up a few cans of both kinds of corn, cream style and regular. We also decided to get a can of each of the greens since we had never had any of them before. Tonight I made some rice and chicken for supper. I cooked up the can of turnip greens too. My daughter thought it was spinach and we didn't tell her any different until supper was over for fear she wouldn't want to eat it if she knew it was turnip greens. Well, after trying them we now know why they were only $.38 a can. Can you say yuck? My daughter didn't like them at all. I didn't care for them but ate what I had put on my plate. Hubby thought they were alright and finished most of what was left. I think so we wouldn't waste it. We have all decided we won't be buying them again though. At least we can say we tried them once. I'm thinking we won't like the other two greens either but we'll just have to wait and see. So the overall rating from our family on turnip greens is EWWWWWW! And that my dear blog readers is your try it before you buy it for tonight!

Something I Wanted To Share

I was just browsing Alchemy on Etsy a little while ago and came across a request that contained the two paragraphs below in it. I wanted to share them with you.

We sat together for a while after the dog's death, wondering aloud about the sad fact that animal lives are shorter than human lives. The boy, who had been listening quietly, piped up, "I know why."

Startled, we all turned to him. He said, "People are born so that they can learn how to live a good life -- like loving everybody all the time and being nice, right?" The six-year-old continued, "Well, dogs already know how to do that, so they don't have to stay as long."

He Knows He Did It

The other day my little guy who is 15 months old was standing near my desk and he tooted. That's what we call it at our house. I looked over at him and he just smiled. It was like he knew he had done it and thought it was funny. I think this was one of the first times he actually realized he had done this. Then he seemed to try to make himself do it again. I think it was yesterday when he was sitting in his high chair and it happened again. He again smiled like he was saying, "Ha ha, that was me." And so it begins.....he is male you know. I think most of them find this sort of thing funny no matter how old they are.

Not Sleeping In Today

So yesterday morning my alarm on my cell phone went off. I set it during the week since it isn't quite as loud as the regular alarm clock in my room. This way my son hopefully won't wake up until I'm ready and have my daughter ready too. Well, I thought I disabled the alarm yesterday when I got up in hopes of sleeping later today but apparently I did not because it was going off this morning. So instead of going back to bed I've decided to just start my day. Figured I would post a blog since I hadn't written one in awhile. So much for sleeping in today!

Crazy Busy Post Office

All I have to say is thank goodness for the automated machines at the post office. I had two packages to mail today. After I picked my daughter up from school we headed over to the post office. It was SO busy that there were no parking spaces left in the parking lot. We had to drive through the parking lot and come back around to park on the street. When we got inside there was a long line waiting to be helped. Luckily this particular post office has an automated machine you can mail your packages from. I usually use it anyway because a lot of the time I ship my items in the evening after the post office closes or on the weekend because my hubby is home to help with the kids. Just makes it so much easier that way. Today I was very thankful that the automated machine was there and that I knew how to use it. I did not feel like standing in line holding my son for a long period of time. We were next in line for the automated machine so our wait was minimal. When we were leaving I think the post office was even busier than before if that was possible. There was a line of cars coming out of the parking lot. It was crazy busy by this point! Good thing we got there when we did!

Sunday Morning Breakfast

So this morning I was so tired that I was just basically lying in bed dozing off for a few minutes then waking back up and dozing off again. I thought my hubby was still there in bed too. I hadn't rolled over to look. Then my alarm clock went off. My alarm clock being my 15 month old little boy. At this point is when I realized my hubby was already up. I went in and got my son from his crib and walked into the living room expecting to find my hubby lounging on the couch. He sometimes gets up before me and then decides he is still tired. Rather than come back to bed he'll rest on the couch. Well, to my surprise this morning he was not on the couch but in the kitchen cooking breakfast. What a man I have! He had been up for awhile too because he nearly had it all finished. This morning we feasted on bacon, scrambled eggs, sausage links, and biscuits with gravy. Oh and a big ol' glass of cold milk! Mmmm mmmm good! Are you hungry now?

Snow Snow Go Away

Snow Snow Go Away!
And Don't Come Again Another Day!

Seriously, I am so tired of snow! We got what seemed like a blizzard of snow Christmas Eve and it has been white outside ever since. We have had two or three more snows just since then. Yes, you guessed it! It's snowing right now as I'm typing this too. Think it started snowing about 11am or so this morning and has been pretty much non-stop since then. It's probably going to be coming down for at least a few more hours or so too. I'm beginning to think we're never going to see any other color but white outside!

My daughter hasn't even returned back to school from winter break because of the snow. They got out early on December 18th and were suppose to go back on January 5th. We got a call telling us they wouldn't be returning to school on January 5th after all. I think school was canceled for January 5th due to the roads not being clear from previous snowstorms. Then today it was canceled due to the current snow falling. We got the automated call today letting us know school would not be in session for the remainder of the week as well. Obviously because of the snow and cold temperatures. Friday I believe our high temperature is suppose to be 3 degrees and the weather woman said she isn't even sure it will make it to that. You'd better believe I don't plan on going out anywhere the next few days unless I have to!

I think my daughter WAS ready to go back to school. The night before winter break was suppose to be over I told her they wouldn't be going back yet and she had tears well up in her eyes. She loves school! I'm so glad! I hope she will always love it. Now I think she is enjoying getting to stay home longer. She hasn't been upset over not getting to go back yet like she was that first night they canceled school. I can't say that I wish she was in school. A lot of parents would be like, "Man, can't I send my kid back to school yet?" I'm the opposite. I'm okay with her being here all day with her little brother and myself. Don't get me wrong, it's nice when daddy gets home to help with the kids but I'm not really in a hurry for her to return to school. Not yet anyway. We still have a few more days this week plus the weekend so I may change my mind by Monday morning.
