Discontinued

Being a crocheter it is REALLY annoying to be making something with a certain color of yarn only to find out that color has become discontinued. Fortunately one time when this happened I was thankfully able to find it on eBay and was able to finish my project.

A few other yarn colors that I use have been discontinued too. These were not colors that I really HAD to have though, but they were colors I wanted to be able to keep making my items with so I again found them on eBay and stocked up. Of course, by buying on eBay I had to pay more which wasn't what I wanted but what I did want was the colors, so I paid the price. Unfortunately I don't think I'll be able to find them in the future so when what I have is gone, there will be no more.

I'm guessing that a company stops making certain colors because they don't feel "enough" people are buying them in order for them to make a profit.

Problem with this idea, which I understand by the way, is that even though "enough" people aren't buying a color, there are SOME that do. Apparently I seem to pick the colors that aren't quite as popular. Just my luck!

Daddy's Phone

Last night my son looked at the arm of the couch and said, "Whoa, what's that?"

I told him it was daddy's phone.

He then clarified for me what it really was.

I believe his words to me were, "No, it's daddy's IPhone."

I stood corrected! It was not just daddy's phone but was indeed daddy's IPhone.

Crazy that a 3 year old knows the specific technical names for things like this!

Green Beans

I like green beans whether they are cooked by themselves, cooked in stew or soup, or baked in a casserole especially green bean casserole. Oh so yummy!

My favorite way to eat green beans though is by far my grandparents' home grown and home canned green beans. Grandma is just simply the best when it comes to making her green beans. She starts with her own home grown ones, adds a tad bit of sugar, some bacon grease, and voila, you have the best green beans in town! At least in my opinion you do! We have purchased canned green beans from the store and tried to make them at home but they just NEVER turn out as good as grandmas'!

For years my grandparents planted rows and rows of green beans in their garden among other vegetables. They then picked them, snapped them, and canned them. I remember helping with the process. It was fun!

Unfortunately because they are getting up there in age, there will be no more home grown green beans from their garden. They are just unable to tend to a garden anymore especially when they have to bend over so far to pick something like green beans.

Well, since they aren't planting green beans anymore that means that as soon as all the current jars of green beans they have canned are gone, then so are the delicious green beans that grandma cooks. I don't know how many jars they have left but I think they may be running low on them. I think grandma and grandpa really enjoy them too because now they don't share anymore. We used to get jars of green beans in our Christmas goodie bags but now we don't. They are keeping them all to themselves now! I can't say that I blame them though. They are DELICIOUS!

We are still fortunate enough to get to enjoy them at family gatherings for now and my family usually eats supper once a week with grandma and grandpa so sometimes we have them then as well.

This year I'm hoping to either plant a garden of my own with green beans in it or I'm going to purchase fresh green beans from the store. I'm then going over to my grandparent's house for a "canning lesson" so that we can keep having home grown canned green beans. Obviously they won't be grandma and grandpas' home grown canned green beans but maybe they'll be close!

Do You Recycle?

It is really crazy how much trash is thrown out each day. What is even more crazy is how much of that trash that is actually recyclable.

Our household was very much guilty of throwing everything out whether we could recycle it or not. The only thing we saved back from the trash were aluminum cans. Of course the reason for that being, they pay you to recycle these so we save them and then put the money in our kids' piggie banks.

The city where we live in doesn't MAKE you recycle like some of the other surrounding cities but does offer a couple of recycling centers that you can take things to. Of course, we were too lazy to do so. It is just much easier to throw it away in the bag in the trashcan right there in the kitchen, put that bag in the trashcan right there next to the house, and then roll that trashcan right out to the curb once a week.

Well, we have since began recycling. We stopped taking the easy way out to get rid of our trash. It is TRULY unbelievable how much we were throwing away that was recyclable. I think we literally went from having between 4 to 5 bags of trash a week to now only having one or two.

If just OUR household cut back on what we were throwing out, can you imagine how much less trash would be going into our landfills if EVERY household who doesn't already, began to recycle. I'm guessing that A LOT of people throw out A LOT of recyclable items.

Sooooo........do you recycle?
